Our Child Protection Team (CPT) is gearing up for another busy year. While referrals and abuse reports decreased from Oct.-Nov., the physical and sexual abuse cases CPT is seeing are more severe.
Our case coordinators and medical team regularly provide dependency and criminal court testimony. Recently, in part as a result of the interview and medical assessment conducted by CPT, the suspect will be serving 10 years in prison, then 5 years on sex offender probation and will be registered as a sex offender for life.
CPT will be conducting child abuse trainings in 2021 with Lee Health Systems, to educate their medical providers and social work teams on signs of child abuse and what role the Child Protection Team plays.
